Clothing sizes guide: how to pick your size when buying online

Last updated: 2026-08-13

The top reason online clothes don't fit is relying on the letter size alone. An M in one brand can equal an L in another, especially between Asian and European labels. The fix is to measure in cm and compare to a piece you already own.

How to measure yourself

  • Bust/chest: wrap the tape around the widest point, keeping it level.
  • Waist: measure around the narrowest point, roughly above the navel.
  • Hips: around the widest point of the hips.
  • Length: for dresses and abayas, from the shoulder to the length you want.
  • Inseam (trousers): from the upper inner thigh to the ankle.

Compare before buying

Instead of guessing your size, take a piece that fits you perfectly, measure it, then ask the seller for the listed item's measurements in cm and compare. A 1–2 cm difference is fine; a bigger gap means the wrong size.

Rough adult size chart

  • S ≈ chest 88–92 cm / EU 36–38
  • M ≈ chest 96–100 cm / EU 40–42
  • L ≈ chest 104–108 cm / EU 44–46
  • XL ≈ chest 112–116 cm / EU 48–50

For kids, go by age in years (2–14) or height in cm; for newborns, by age in months (0–24). When in doubt, always ask for the item's measurements — a serious seller won't mind.
