How to buy the right abaya online

Last updated: 2026-08-13

An abaya is meant to last and be worn often, so choosing it deserves some care. Three factors decide the fit: length, fabric, and cut.

1) Length

The most important factor. Ask for the shoulder-to-hem length in cm and compare it to an abaya you already wear. The rule is that it should reach near the ankle without touching the floor, to avoid dirt and tripping.

2) Fabric

  • Nida: light, soft, and flowing — good for summer and daily wear.
  • Crepe: a little heavier and holds its shape — good for occasions.
  • Beware photos that show unrealistic sheen; ask for a picture of the fabric in natural light.

3) Cut

Cloche is wide at the bottom, butterfly has draped sleeves, and kimono is practical and modern. Choose by taste and occasion.

Before you pay

Ask for real photos (not just promo shots), ask about alteration or returns, and check the shade of black, which varies between fabrics. For in-person handover, inspect the abaya before paying.
